The story of To the Moon

6 parts, from the opening to the ending. Read it before Finding Paradise. This page tells the ending.

To the Moon's page

  1. One Last Wish

You were Dr. Eva Rosalene and Dr. Neil Watts, sent by Sigmund Corporation to the dying Johnny Wyles. He wanted to visit the moon, but could not explain why. You could only grant that wish by changing his memories. At his cliffside home, you entered his mind and began working backward through his life.

  2. River and Anya

You found a lifetime built around his late wife, River. She had treasured a lighthouse called Anya and folded countless paper rabbits. When illness forced a choice between treatment and finishing their house beside the lighthouse, she chose the house. You saw Johnny struggling to understand her requests, and grieving after she died before construction was finished.

  3. The Missing Years

You followed their marriage back to a school romance. Johnny believed that school was where they had first met. River had later discovered that he remembered their beginning differently, but her paper rabbits had failed to bring his memories back. You tried planting his wish in childhood, only to find that his mind would not produce the life you needed.

  4. A Forgotten Promise

You uncovered the childhood he had lost. His twin, Joey, had died in an accident, and medication given afterward had erased more than the tragedy. Before that loss, Johnny had met River at a carnival. They had imagined a rabbit among the stars, with the moon as its belly, and promised to meet on the moon if they became separated.

  5. A Different Life

You finally understood why Johnny wanted the moon: he had forgotten the promise, but still wanted to find River. You rebuilt his memories so Joey survived and River disappeared from his school years. That absence drove Johnny toward becoming an astronaut. At NASA, you watched him meet River again, now a fellow recruit, and their life together began anew.

  6. The Journey HomeThe ending

You watched Johnny and River launch toward the moon together inside his rewritten memories. He took her hand as his real heart stopped. You had fulfilled his wish without changing the life outside his mind. Johnny was buried beside River, and his caregiver Lily inherited the house. You left for another patient; Neil paused to take painkillers before following Eva.
