What the site keeps, and why.

Video Game Backlog is run by its solo maintainer, teemuk2. This page describes the data used to run the library tools and Name 100 Games.

Last updated July 23, 2026.

Your account and library

For an email-and-password account, Video Game Backlog keeps your email address and a one-way password hash, never your readable password. If you connect Steam, it keeps the public Steam profile and library data needed to sync your games and playtime.

Your saved library choices, ratings, notes, profile settings, and sync history stay attached to your account so the product can work across visits.

Usage counters and optional analytics

Basic first-party counters record product events such as starting or finishing a challenge. Guest events use no account ID and set no analytics cookie. Events created while signed in can carry the internal account ID. These counters are kept for about 400 days, then deleted automatically.

PostHog and Microsoft Clarity are optional. They collect analytics and session-replay data only after you accept the analytics banner; declining keeps them off.

Name 100 voice and judge text

Speech recognition happens through your browser and its speech service. No audio reaches Video Game Backlog servers. The Name 100 judge receives only the resulting text.

A bounded sample of unmatched game-title text is kept anonymously for up to 14 days. When a miss is followed by the accepted title, the correction snippet can be kept for up to 30 days. If the judge verifies a useful title phrasing, that phrase can remain as anonymous catalog knowledge with no link to you.

A difficult miss may be checked by an AI service using text and a short list of candidate games. Audio is never sent, and provider storage is disabled for that request. The local verdict cache stores a phrase hash rather than the phrase and expires after 180 days.

Saved challenge runs

Saved Name 100 runs include the score, titles named, and timing needed for result pages, leaderboards, crowd pace, and ghost duels. A guest run has no account owner unless you choose to claim it after signing in.

Questions or deletion requests

Use the contact and feedback form for privacy questions or a deletion request. Include enough information to identify the account or public run you mean; the maintainer will reply if more detail is needed.
