The story of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat

6 parts, from the opening to the ending (where it turned on your choices, what every ending shares). Read it before S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl. This page tells the ending.

  1. Operation Fairway

You were Major Alexander Degtyarev, a Ukrainian security service agent sent into the Zone under cover as a stalker. Operation Fairway had attempted to secure the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant after Strelok opened the route north. All five of its helicopters had crashed. You entered Zaton to examine the wrecks and discover what had brought the operation down.

  2. The Stingray Wrecks

You searched the crashed Stingray helicopters across Zaton and Jupiter. Electrical damage pointed toward the Zone’s anomalies, but the investigation also became a search for survivors. Evacuation records and a decoded flight recorder led you toward point B28 in Pripyat. Reaching the soldiers meant finding a way into the city through the sealed Pripyat 1 underpass.

  3. Pripyat 1

You assembled a team with Zulu and prepared to cross the underpass. Who else joined you, and who survived the crossing, depended on your decisions and protection. Nitro helped you enter the tunnels beneath Jupiter. Inside, poisonous gas forced you into sealed protective equipment. You fought through mutants and a Monolith ambush before emerging into Pripyat and meeting a military patrol.

  4. The Trapped Soldiers

You reached Colonel Kovalsky and the stranded soldiers at their laundromat base. He suspected a powerful Monolith weapon had downed the helicopters. You helped capture a Gauss rifle and followed the investigation into the Zone’s secret research, including Laboratory X8. Meanwhile, Monolith fighters kept wearing down the garrison. You destroyed their radio jammer so the soldiers could contact headquarters again.

  5. Strelok’s Explanation

You investigated an approaching signal and found Strelok coming to the military base. He carried information about the Zone and explained the flaw in Operation Fairway: emissions moved the airborne anomalies. The pilots had followed maps that were already wrong. You sheltered through another emission, then prepared to escort the survivors to rescue helicopters near the Prometheus cinema.

  6. EvacuationThe ending

You fought through Pripyat and defended the evacuation against Monolith. Who survived, including Kovalsky and Strelok, depended on your protection. You could leave aboard a helicopter or remain in the Zone. If Strelok survived, he passed his findings to the government and became a scientific consultant; otherwise, his knowledge died with him. Your own epilogue recorded that you declined promotion to colonel and requested a return to the Zone as the security service’s permanent observer.
