  1. Kuvaq

    You were Rufus, an inventor living among the rubbish of Deponia. From your ex-girlfriend Toni's home in Kuvaq, you planned another escape to Elysium, the floating city above. Your homemade rocket landed you aboard an Organon cruiser. There you encountered Goal, an Elysian woman threatened by the soldier Argus. Your attempted rescue sent her tumbling down to the planet, and you followed.

  2. A Ticket Up

    You found Goal unconscious in Kuvaq and brewed a powerful coffee to wake her. Her damaged brain implant left her struggling to communicate. You contacted her fiancé, Cletus, and bargained for passage to Elysium in return for bringing her back. You arranged to meet at the Lower Ascension Station, then fled with Goal when Argus came searching for her.

  3. Lower Ascension Station

    You carried Goal through the rubbish and met Doc, a handyman scavenging spare parts. After getting transport working in the garbage mine, you reached the Lower Ascension Station. But Cletus had arrived with the Organon. You overheard his bargain with Argus: Goal mattered because her implant held the ascension codes. Your promised ride depended on handing her to people who meant to silence her.

  4. The Memory Cartridge

    You discovered that Deponia was marked for destruction. Goal's knowledge that people lived there threatened the plan, so Cletus intended to erase her memories. You found help aboard Captain Bozo's trawler, where Doc repaired her implant. You told Goal the truth, but Cletus turned her against you. You replaced her memory cartridge with a backup and tried to take Cletus's place beside her.

  5. Left BelowThe ending

    You finally admitted the deception to Goal and returned for her original memory cartridge. Cletus and Argus confronted you, and your escape to Elysium fell apart. Goal departed with Cletus while you remained behind. You escaped Argus using Ulysses's flying communicator and joined Captain Bozo aboard his trawler. You had lost your passage upward, and Deponia's destruction still hung over everyone below.
