The story of Borderlands GOTY

5 parts, from the opening to the ending. Read it before Borderlands 2. This page tells the ending.

  1. Fyrestone

You arrived on Pandora chasing the Vault, an alien cache said to hold unimaginable wealth. You played one of four hunters: Roland, Lilith, Mordecai, or Brick. Around Fyrestone, abandoned settlements and armed bandits stood between you and that promise. A mysterious woman calling herself your Guardian Angel appeared in your communications. You followed her guidance toward the pieces needed to open the Vault.

  2. The scattered key

You killed the bandit leader Sledge and recovered a fragment of the Vault Key. Commandant Steele, an officer of the Atlas corporation's Crimson Lance, demanded that you surrender it. You ignored her. Beyond New Haven, you met researcher Patricia Tannis at her dig site. She recognized what you had found and sent you after the remaining fragments. Your treasure hunt became a race against Atlas.

  3. Krom and the Hive

You fought through Krom's Canyon for the second fragment, then reached the Trash Coast for the third. A huge Rakk Hive blocked your progress there, spilling flying creatures into the battle. After bringing it down, you recovered another piece for Tannis. She then claimed that a former employee, Baron Flynt, had stolen a fourth fragment. You followed that lead into the Salt Flats.

  4. The Lance's trap

You defeated Flynt, but his chest held no fragment. The fourth piece had been a lie. Steele's soldiers had captured Tannis and used her to send you astray while they took the completed key. Steele shut down the ECHO network as the Crimson Lance tightened its grip. You found Tannis imprisoned in the Crimson Fastness, freed her, and restored communications before pursuing Steele toward the Vault.

  5. Inside the VaultThe ending

You reached the Vault as Steele opened it. The Destroyer impaled her and slaughtered her soldiers; the promised treasure chamber had contained a monster. You defeated it and survived. Angel's closing appearance revealed that her signal came through a Hyperion satellite, leaving her identity unexplained. You returned the spent key to Tannis for payment. She resumed her research, while you remained on Pandora with the hunt finished and the legend exposed.
