  1. Christmas Eve

    You were Bruce Wayne, still early in your work as Batman, when Black Mask led an attack on Blackgate Prison. Commissioner Loeb was murdered before you could save him. You defeated Killer Croc and learned that eight assassins had been offered fifty million dollars to kill you that night. With Alfred supporting you from the Batcave, you began tracking the man who had put that price on your head.

  2. Behind the mask

    You confronted Penguin aboard the Final Offer, survived Deathstroke, and followed a lead to murders at Lacey Towers. The evidence pointed toward someone called the Joker. Inside police headquarters, Barbara Gordon helped you find a way into the criminal database. At Gotham Merchants Bank, you uncovered the deception: Joker had abducted the real Black Mask, assumed his identity, and used his fortune to finance the bounty.

  3. The Royal Hotel

    You tracked Joker through the steel mill, where Copperhead poisoned you. Alfred supplied an antidote, and you defeated her before following the assassins to the Royal Hotel. Joker murdered Electrocutioner and turned the building into a trap. You fought Bane, then saved Joker when he fell from the hotel. In custody, speaking with Dr. Harleen Quinzel, Joker became fascinated by the man who had refused to let him die.

  4. The broken Batcave

    You discovered that Bane had identified you as Bruce Wayne. Before you could return home, Firefly threatened Pioneers Bridge with explosives. You and Captain James Gordon stopped him and saved the bridge. Bane struck the Batcave while you were away. You returned to find Alfred dying among the wreckage and revived him with Electrocutioner's shock gloves. Shaken, you finally accepted how much you needed his help.

  5. Blackgate again

    You returned to Blackgate after Joker seized the prison. He connected Bane's heartbeat to a lethal trap, trying to force you to kill someone, and put Gordon in danger too. You briefly stopped Bane's heart with the shock gloves, then revived him. Bane injected the experimental TN-1 compound and became a monstrous brute. You defeated him; the drug damaged his memory, erasing his knowledge of your identity.

  6. The chapelThe ending

    You found Joker in the prison chapel, still trying to make you kill him. You refused, beat him into submission, and left him for Gordon to arrest. The captain who had hunted you now recognized that Gotham needed your help. You ended the night with Alfred alive, your identity protected, and Joker imprisoned. Your resolve held, but you had also accepted that protecting Gotham required allies.
