The story of Assassin's Creed II

7 parts, from the opening to the ending. Read it before Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. This page tells the ending.

  1. The Animus

You were Desmond Miles, a prisoner of Abstergo, when Lucy Stillman helped you escape. At an Assassin hideout, Shaun Hastings and Rebecca Crane put you into their Animus. You relived the memories of your ancestor, Ezio Auditore. Lucy hoped that experiencing his life would teach you his skills quickly enough to fight the modern Templars.

  2. Florence

As Ezio, you retrieved your father's Assassin equipment and evidence meant to free him and your brothers from prison. Uberto Alberti betrayed them despite that evidence, and you watched them hang. You killed Uberto, then brought your mother and sister to your uncle Mario at Monteriggioni. There, you learned that your father's enemies belonged to the Templar Order.

  3. The Conspiracy

You hunted the conspirators through Florence and San Gimignano, unraveling the Pazzi plot and tracing its leadership to Rodrigo Borgia. Your pursuit carried you to Venice, where more Templars sought control of the city. Leonardo da Vinci helped you decipher Altaïr's Codex and improve your equipment. Your family's murder had drawn you into a much older struggle.

  4. The Apple

You intercepted an ancient artifact called the Apple of Eden in Venice and fought Rodrigo for it. When your allies arrived, he escaped. Those allies revealed that they were Assassins and formally welcomed you into their Order. Rodrigo believed himself the prophet destined to open a mysterious Vault. Your friends believed that role belonged to you.

  5. Forlì And Florence

You helped Caterina Sforza defend Forlì, but a wound left you helpless as the monk Girolamo Savonarola took the Apple. You later found him using it to dominate Florence. You broke his lieutenants' grip, recovered the artifact, and killed him to spare him burning alive. Before the crowd, you urged people to choose their own paths.

  6. The Vatican

You assembled the Codex pages and located the Vault beneath the Vatican. Rodrigo had become Pope Alexander VI, gaining a second artifact: the Papal Staff. In Rome, you fought him with the Apple, then defeated him inside the Vatican. You spared his life because killing him could not restore your family. The Apple and Staff opened the Vault for you.

  7. Minerva's WarningThe ending

You encountered Minerva, a projection from an ancient civilization, but her message addressed Desmond through you. She warned of a returning catastrophe and pointed toward temples that might prevent it. As Ezio, you were left bewildered, with Rodrigo alive. As Desmond, you awoke to an Abstergo attack, fought using Ezio's skills, and escaped with Lucy, Shaun, and Rebecca, carrying the warning.
