The story of The Witcher

7 parts, from the opening to the ending (where it turned on your choices, what every ending shares). Read it before The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. This page tells the ending.

  1. Kaer Morhen

You were Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter who had returned without his memory. Fellow witchers sheltered you at Kaer Morhen. Salamandra raiders, led by the Professor and the mage Azar Javed, attacked the fortress and stole the secrets used to create witchers. You and the survivors separated to hunt the thieves and recover what they had taken.

  2. The Road to Vizima

You followed Salamandra into Vizima's outskirts, where you rescued Alvin, a boy with uncontrolled magical powers, and fought the Beast haunting the villages. Abigail's survival depended on your choices. Inside Vizima, you investigated Salamandra with detective Raymond Maarloeve. Javed later killed Raymond and took his place in disguise. At a swamp tower, you fought Javed and the Professor. They poisoned you and escaped.

  3. Beneath Vizima

You recovered under sorceress Triss Merigold's care and renewed the hunt. You also chose whether Triss or Shani would care for Alvin. An assault on Salamandra's underground base ended with the Professor dead and Javed gone. Evidence exposed Princess Adda's support for the gang. She ordered your execution, but Triss teleported you away to the lakeside before her soldiers could act.

  4. Murky Waters

You found Alvin again near Murky Waters and gave him an amulet to restrain his powers. His questions made your advice matter to him. Fighting between the nonhuman Scoia'tael and the Order of the Flaming Rose reached the village. You chose a faction or tried to remain neutral. Frightened by the violence, Alvin vanished through his own uncontrolled magic.

  5. Old Vizima

You returned to a burning Vizima. King Foltest asked you to deal with Adda, cursed into a striga again; whether you cured or killed her depended on you. You then reached Javed's laboratory beneath the Old Manor and killed him. Behind Salamandra stood Jacques de Aldersberg, Grand Master of the Order. The stolen witcher secrets had supplied his army of obedient mutants.

  6. The Ice Plains

You confronted Jacques inside his vision of a frozen future. He claimed his mutants would lead humanity south and save it from the White Frost. You defeated him and chose whether to surrender his soul to the King of the Wild Hunt. Jacques died, leaving an aged version of Alvin's amulet. His familiar words suggested a connection to the missing boy, without settling it outright.

  7. The King's AssassinThe ending

You received Foltest's reward after ending Jacques's plans. Your choices had determined allegiances and who survived along the way, but the king still faced another threat. Leaving his chambers, you discovered dead guards and rushed back to find an assassin attacking him. You killed the attacker and saved Foltest. Beneath the assassin's disguise, you found an unfamiliar face with a witcher's eyes.
